In my last post I told you all about my visit to the Rota farm in Sterling MA where you can buy everything from fresh blueberries, veggies their own beef and ice cream made right on the premises. It’s a family farm at it’s best.
When I was at Rota Farm, I saw produce, I saw animals, I saw ice cream made right there. In other words a FARM.
On last weeks conference call however Congressman Jordan told us that 80% of the money allocated in the new Farm Bill was going for…wait for it…food stamps.
Now maybe it’s just me but when I think “Farm” I imagine a place like Rota Farm, not food stamps.
“In one of these, an individual tries to convince a friend to enroll in food stamps even though that friend declares: ‘I don’t need anyone’s help. My husband earns enough to take care of us,’” says GOP Sen. Jeff Sessions, describing the novelas. “The first individual replies back: ‘When are you going to learn?’
And the other twenty percent? Apparently subsidies that are available to farmers making up to 3/4 of a million dollars.
What’s even more amazing is that $750,000 is $200,000 less that the senate version of the bill.
The saddest things about the entire business. This bill is advancing in a GOP majority house, tea party caucus not withstanding.
